PRE K Program

Ages 4 years old.

I Can Preschool and Child Care is a high-quality early care and education center that fosters a growth mindset, motivation to learn, executive functioning, and goal directed learning, for all our students in our PRE K program. To promote individualized learning experiences, we create an environment that is responsive, equitable, and inclusive. Our innovative early learning activities are educator led, child directed, meaningful, and intentional. All daily lesson plans are facilitated by qualified early educators that prioritize effective teaching practices that support a child’s strengths, interests, and needs.

Curriculum

Our curriculum provides an emergent and comprehensive approach to the California Preschool & Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations (PTKLF) that was published by the California Department of Education (CDE), in the Summer of 2024. Our Schedule of Daily Activities and Daily Lesson Plans effectively align with PTKLF strands, sub strands, and foundation statements. Our curriculum offers a strong concentration in the nine domains of PTKLF. This includes approaches to learning, social emotional development, language and literacy development, mathematics, science, physical development, health, history social science, and visual and performing arts. Our curriculum framework is guided by the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in Early Childhood Education. Applying UDL safeguards our ability to deliver early education that is culturally responsive, equitable, inclusive, and flexible. The goal of our program is to create a foundation for school readiness, and success in later academic opportunities.

Environment

Students at I Can Preschool and Child Care thrive in an early learning environment that balances child-led, and teacher guided play activities. All our classrooms are carefully designed to support a child’s engagement and maximize their attentiveness and self-regulation. Our PRE K classroom environments are created using the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS – 3). The use of this environmental assessment tool ensures classroom quality that stimulates physical, social – emotional, and cognitive development. Our Schedule of Daily Activities provides the necessary classroom routine and exposure to structured activities and their transitions. Teacher – Student interactions are guided by Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP). Utilizing DAP guarantees that the early learning environment is safe, nurturing, and supportive.
